Welcome to St.John’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Kumarakom |
|
|
|
St. John the Baptist church at Kumarakom, popularly known as Attamangalam pally,
is one of the prominent parishes of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox
Church. The church was established in the year 1853 (M.E. 1028) and consecrated
by Metropolitan Mathews Mor Athanasius of Malankara on the day of the feast of
St. John the Baptist. About a century after its founding, the old church
building was demolished and a new one was constructed in its place. |

Message from Former Vicar Rev. Fr. P.K JOHN POTHANICKAL |
|
The inner essence of being a Christian is eternal life .Both the Episcopal and
liturgical heritage of the church affirms the fact that generations elevated
from the material world to the realam of salvation. The Jacobite syrian orthodox
church keeps vigil to follow the apostolic tradition and Episcopal purity.
The church is proud of the succession from St. Peter, the Apostle to the
present patriarch of antioch. Intercession to St Mary and all saints is a
feature that still exists and observed in the church. |
St John’s Attamangalam Jacobite syrian church,Kumarakom is apt to the sayings of
our lord “My house shall be called a house of prayers”.Thousands from different
walks of life visit this church to offer their prayers. This parish follows the
foot prints of the Apostolic faith which affirmed by us in the Holy Synods viz
Nicea, constantinople and Ephesus. The responsibility that we should hold as
St.luke says “Let your loins be girded and your lamps burnings”, is to wait for
our lord to come,to guard duty to our faith for the posterity. May God bestow us
His blessings by the prayers of St Mary, the mother of God, St.John the
baptist, the patron saint of our parish and St. Thomas ,the Apostle to India.
Amen
Rev. Fr. P.K. JOHN POTHANICKAL

Message from former Asst. Vicar Rev. Fr. Kurian Mathew Vadakkeparampil |
|
The best definition of spirituality in my terms is, spirituality =
contemplation + action + transformation.
The Syrian orthodox theological positions undoubtedly proclaims that this is the
right spirituality ,that its followers should adhered to.
The venerated saints of the church (especially st. John the Baptist , the patron
saint of this church) are also respected on the basis of their ardent adherence
to this right spirituality.

|
|
The modern world is hijacked by “mere spirituality ” which practices
contemplation and some sort of action for the name sake. The church and its
people should realize this truth and hold our hands together to spread the
gospel of right spiritually, which we have received from our Lord and God Jesus
Christ.
Let us pray God almighty to bless the world with right spirituality, which is
the right solution to the problems of the modern World.
